God Is More Powerful Than The Devil

Not only is it true that God is more powerful than the devil, God is infinitely more powerful than Satan and all of his demons combined!

I’m emphasizing this idea about how God is more powerful than the devil (Satan) and all of his demons combined because I want to reassure you that God is totally in control. There is no way all of the forces of hell combined could overpower God.

If they could have, they would have done so long ago.

The devil does not want you to know any of this.

The devil wants you to believe that God is busy somewhere else, and that He is unaware that the devil is tormenting you.

But the truth is: God is right there with you. God has always been with you and He always will be with you.

You may be wondering: “If God is right there, why does He allow this to happen to me?

Great question!

I know of several factors. I’m going to quote two verses, then use them to answer the question.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1)

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

Satan must get permission before he can do anything to us:

And even with permission, Satan and his demons are restricted as to what they are allowed to do.

Job 1:6-22
Satan Allowed to Test Job

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” 8 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?” 9 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for no reason? 10 Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.” 11 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

Satan Takes Jobs Property and Children

13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brothers house, 14 and there came a messenger to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, 15 and the Sabeans fell upon them and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 16 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 17 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, “The Chaldeans formed three groups and made a raid on the camels and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 18 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brothers house, 19 and behold, a great wind came across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

22 In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.

The Testing Of Jobs Faith Continues In Chapter 2:
Job 2:1-10
Satan Attacks Jobs Health

1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” 3 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.” 4 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life. 5 But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.” 6 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life.”

7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 8 And he took a piece of broken pottery with which to scrape himself while he sat in the ashes.

9 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” 10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

  • Actually, God is helping you. He’s restraining the devil from destroying you RIGHT NOW! God allows the devil to go only so far, and no farther. To see an example of this in the Bible, read Chapter 1 of the book of Job. In Job 1:9-12 you can see examples of God restraining and limiting what He would allow Satan to do to Job.
  • God has given each of us a free will, therefore He will not intervene uninvited. The devils take advantage of that TO THE MAX!
  • Notice the first part of James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God”. It speaks of submission; obedience. (More about obedience below).
  • Notice: Psalm 46:1 (quoted above) says, “God is OUR refuge and strength”. The word “our” refers to those who have chosen to be obedient to God.
  • And: you have to ASK! Recall: “…You do not have, because you do not ask” (James 4:2)
  • Also: God may be using the trial you are under to strengthen your faith in Him. (See James 1:2-4 directly below.)

Here’s something you and I need to always remember:

Everything Is A Test!    EVERYTHING!

That’s why James wrote this:

2 Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4)

You probably think of your aggravating circumstances as just random stuff that “just happens”, right? But God uses those trials to strengthen your faith in Him.

Inside of every trial is an opportunity to submit to God’s authority, trust Him, and respond in obedience to Him. That’s what God is longing to see in each one of us.

But, if you’re like I used to be, you probably are totally unaware that God has anything to do with the events of everyday life, right? But the reality is: God is so near to you, and He’s longing for you to believe and act upon these things that you are reading here.

Things such as submitting to His authority.

On the subject of submitting to God, I wrote down this list of areas of obedience that we all struggle with.

God Wants Our Obedience

I made a list of areas in which I want to be obedient to God. This is probably not a comprehensive list, and I am definitely not doing them perfectly:

  • attitude
  • anger
  • blaming
  • complaining
  • compromise
  • contentment
  • covetousness
  • defiance
  • discipline
  • clothing choices
  • entertainment choices
  • envy
  • excuses - vs. taking ownership
  • food choices
  • haughty vs. humble heart
  • love
  • parenting
  • patience
  • physical fitness
  • pride
  • procrastination
  • rebellion
  • resentment
  • relationship based on performance vs. acceptance
  • repentance
  • revenge
  • Scripture memory
  • selfishness
  • stewardship (financial, time, talent etc.)
  • stubbornness
  • ungodly or lustful thoughts and actions
  • unbelief - vs.trusting God
  • unforgiveness

What He is really watching for is steady progress in the right direction. He wants us to voluntarily come under His authority. In other words, He wants us to submit ourselves to God

Don’t be overwhelmed by that list. God does not demand perfection. He knows we’re not perfect.

What Is God Looking For?
He’s looking for steady progress in the right direction. You and I can do that!

And — good news — we don’t have to do it by our own strength!

Here’s how God helps those who turn to Him in faith and obedience:

But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it). (James 4:6 AMP)

See that? POWER of the Holy Spirit.

How reassuring it is to know that God will not allow the devils to trouble us beyond our ability to endure.

Satan is a very powerful being, the second most powerful in the universe. But he is nevertheless a finite, created being.

Satan cannot be everywhere; he is not all-powerful; he is not all-knowing. Plus, being the bullies that they are, Satan and his demons run from the greater strength of God just as cockroaches run and hide from the light.

In contrast, God is all-knowing, all-powerful, all-present. He knows the end from the beginning. God is in charge, and will protect those who turn to Him.

How To Apply The Principle:

  • When adversity strikes, remember that God is in charge. He is in complete control. He knows all about your situation.
  • Satan and his demons are defeated beings. They don’t care about you at all. They just want to take you to hell with them because Jesus loves you.
  • Instead of fretting over your problems, choose to praise God instead for what He has already done for you.
  • You will probably fail at these things at first. But then, learn from your mistakes, and resolve to do better next time.
  • Remember when you learned to ride a bicycle? At first, you fell a lot. But: remember the joy when you finally mastered that bicycle? Learning to live according to God’s ways is a lot like that. If I might extend the bicycle metaphor: let’s strive to be in the “Tour de France” of living the victorious Christian life!
  • What To Do: memorize this verse: “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (John 4:4)” You can do it. Just write it on a recipe card and read it over several times a day until you can say it “by heart”. THEN — VERY IMPORTANT: Recite it silently to yourself frequently throughout the day. You will be astonished at how it helps you!

Bottom line: God is more powerful than the devil.

Jesus said this:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Jesus gave you peace. If you don’t have it, you’ve given it up needlessly. The devil has stolen it from you.

Ah, but now you know how to get it back!

DO IT!

PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, for the comforting reassurance that there is no problem the enemy can cause that You cannot handle. One thing I know: You are in charge!

We all have a free will, thats why God allow bad things to happen. God gave us a free will because he wants to see where each one of us deserves to go, heaven or hell. If God would of stop every evil thing going on around the world which is a sin, then God would have to stop us humans from sinning, in every way and I mean every sin in the bible. Im pretty sure not a lot of people would like that. I like the way God does things he’s great.
    God bless you all.

Jennifer, you are right on about us having a free will. God could not make a human race that was completely free to choose good or evil, yet at the same time He would make sure that each of us would make the right choices.
As to salvation, all we have to do is invite Jesus to be our Savior – and our Lord! Once we turn our lives over to Jesus, He works through us to help others. You are seeing an example of that right here. I myself once was indifferent to God, but he took hold of me and trained me and equipped me just as you see here in this blog. I couldn’t do these things; He is working through me. Get it?

And yet, all the world is under the devil’s control…we are living in the most evil time in human history, and more humans are under the devil’s dominion than ever before.

If God “loves” us, why does he allow every single one of us to be subject to satan’s rule? A loving parent doesn’t stand idly by and allow a child to die at the hands of evil. God does. A loving parent doesn’t allow some of their children to oppress other children. God does. A loving parent doesn’t allow a child to destroy the parent’s creations. God does.

God allows his “children” (humans) to kill each other, to oppress each other, to destroy God’s creation.

I don’t necessarily disagree with what you wrote in your article, but why will God condemn most people to hell after knowingly putting us in this challenging test that NOBODY can pass? Why will God allow most people to submit to satan’s rule, and why does God allow life to be so miserable for anybody who truly does try to submit to His rule? Why will God not cast out satan?

In a universal scale, I agree. God is most powerful. But in the lives of humans? No. Satan rules. Satan is the dominant power. Satan has real control. And it sucks.

Hey Tommy: GREAT comment! You have raised several concerns that many others may have.
I can’t address all of them here, but watch for a future article.
For now: God IS in COMPLETE CONTROL of everything that happens in this world.
The world you (and I) are longing for is called Heaven. We’re not there yet.

    ESTABLISHING CHURCHES INSIDE MUSLIMS COMMUNITY

Dear Pastor / Brother / Sister in Christ,
Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus’ name from India!
I am Bashir. I am in great need of your kind prayers for me, family and ministry especially among the Muslims. Our God led me by His Holy Spirit to find your contact address through Google search.
I would like to share with you that our God has called me & my wife to reach specifically to the Muslims with The Gospel and establish Churches inside Muslim community. I and my wife both have surrendered our lives into His hands to be used according to His will & guidance in our lives.
So far more than hundred Muslim men, women and their family members have surrendered their lives to Jesus through our ministry and they have received free salvation from our Lord Jesus. They are following the teachings of our Lord Jesus and witnessing to their own relatives and neighbours by His grace. Most of them are living in threats by the Radical Muslims but God has protected them so far for His own glory.
Jesus has touched and healed several Muslims through our prayers for His own glory. Demonic possessed persons are being set free in Jesus’ name. He is healing Muslims men & women form various types of diseases for the extension of His Kingdom in this part of the world.
Humbly, I request you kindly pray that God might constantly help us to be obedient, faithful, honest, humbleness and He might help us to live in His holiness. Please pray for His divine protection in our lives and in all the believers form Muslim background at our fellowship. We are having burden in our hearts to have PRIMARILY at least 1000 believers from Muslim background in our Church and to establish as many as House Churches inside Muslim community in my area by His grace & mercies.
    Regards,

Jesus rose from the dead, appeared to many witnesses and then ascended far above the highest heavens to fulfil all righteous. He was seated at the right hand of God the Father the Almighty. Would God the Father happen to be Jehovah God?

      Hi, Dave,
All of your “feelings” and “thoughts” and “emotions” are all perceived in your mind, right? So then, what you are looking for is a way to filter out thoughts that drag you down, while at the same time focusing on thoughts that build you up and encourage you.
      Paul wrote this:
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8)

      Paul also wrote:
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Now let me ask you: would Scriptures like those be in the Bible if God did not intended for us to be guided by them? I don’t think so.

Now somehow, Satan has gotten permission from God to make your life miserable. So let me ask: can you think of any un-confessed sin in your life? That would put you out of fellowship with God, and this give Satan an opening to get permission. Are you living in obedience to God? He promises to help those who love Him. Read John 14:15-17, and John 14:21-27. See how He promises to help those who love Him?

Have you read my article, How To Banish Unwanted Thoughts. That article goes into detail about these things.

In addition to this, I asked my wife Joanne for her advice, and here it is, just as she wrote it:

When you wake up “feeling evil all around you”, this is your sense of discernment kicking in. This is a gift of the Holy Spirit, and is designed by God to let you know when Satan and his demons are attacking. God has given you authority over these demons because of the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross. So take your authority and stand up to them. A simple “Get out of here in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth” should do it. Vary your sentences from time to time. Plain talk. “I come against you by the Blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! I will NOT listen to you.” Or “I bind that spirit of Fear in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! You go back to the pit of Hell in Jesus Name!” Or “No, you don’t, you lying demons! I will NOT listen to you. The Truth sets me free in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!”

Thank you Jan for reminding even those of us that have been in the Faith for a long time that we have the tools to combat the evil that attacks. At 55, I would have never thought I would have experienced the attacks in my mind like i have had this past week. I am putting into practice 1 John 4:4 and 2 Cor. 10:5 and others to combat this! God will not allow the enemy to have me, because my soul is sealed in Him! Thank you Jesus!

God has chosen to create us as beings that are “lower than the angels” (Hebrews 2:7). We cannot see the wind, but we can feel the influence of the wind. Also, I can’t se electricity either. But, if I unscrew a light bulb and stick my finger into the empty socket, I would sure feel the presence of electricity. In the same way, we can see the influence of evil. But we can only tell that it’s evil when we know what God’s Word says. The writer of Hebrews puts it like this: “But solid food [knowing God’s Word] is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” (Hebrews 5:14)

Ergh… I’d really love to always remember and always act right in the face of “falling over”. I’m a porn addict, y’know? It’s SO PAINFUL! Most of the time I feel all right, but then it hits me like a shotgun! LITERALLY! I just feel that awful pain in the stomach that I can’t heal! I’ve tried everything; Praying, reading the Bible, even simple things like listening to music or watching the TV. It all has the same effect. It stops for a while, and then it comes back like a boomerang and it’s done. Over. I’ve fallen down. Most of the time I just didn’t even have time to stop and think “What should I do now?”! It’s just too strong!
Sure, you can say “Well then, go to a mental hospital!”, but IT DOESN’T WORK THAT WAY! I have a doomed life to live and my parents would NEVER allow me to give up on it! I live a Spiritual Last Stand and it’s the only thing I know for real.
    I am DOOMED TO FAIL.
I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO LIFE, FALL, RECONCILE AND DIE.

Oh Lord… Forgive me my sins…

First of all Casper all your sins are forgiven & Jesus is praying 4 U ( Read 1John1:7-2:1) & there is no condemnation 4 those in Christ Jesus ( Rom8:1) – Next I want 2 tell U that at one time I enjoyed the pleasure of watching porn even after I got saved but then as I continued reading thew New Testament especially the book of Romans it confirmed 2 me the finishing works of the cross & that I did not have 2 bow down anymore to porn – but the answer 4 me was that I had to hate that bondage of porn & call it 4 what it is – ” SIN” not pleasurable or even my addiction but – SIN. The bible says in Romans 12:9 (NIV) to “HATE WHAT IS EVIL & CLING TO WHAT IS GOOD – Until u decide 2 hate that porn U will always be bound to it – Remember Romans 6 that is the key my friend Sin’s power has been broken but if we continue to bow to its temptation then it becomes our Master – So Casper U got 2 call that porn 4 what it is – EVIL & STRAIGHT FROM THE PIT OF HELL – Love Ya bro & praying 4 the eyes of your heart 2 B enlighten – Oh yeah Read Romans 6 through 8 it will set U free but U got 2 want 2 B made well – Jesus Loves U & is praying 4 U bro 🙂

God can give you the victory Casper. I used to struggle until I came to Jesus; then He one the battle for me; all I had to do was follow Him. I still struggle with other problems but I haven’t given up.

I prayed for Darrell, He is so lost and hateful. I could not finish reading his comment for I felt Satan speaking through him. God please bless him and keep him and show him the truth. Thank you for the words of God, Please continue your work. Bless you.

This is literally the biggest crock of bullshit I’ve had the most unpleasant experience too read in a very long time, people wake up stop being slaves to some dogmatic and extremely un original “god” do some dam research on the guy and realize what kind of being he really is,blind faith gets you know were, solid truth is the ultimate power.
Like come on you Judaics,Muslims, and cristians can’t even at least be original ? Taking from others to try to attempt to solidify your lies?
It’s just some book some idiots wrote to try to control people, and if there was a so called Yahweh or Jehovah or Tetragrammaton,he’s the cruel entity from the Old Testament you know the one that needed burnt human and animals sacrifices to survive, the entire New Testament was written by a roman emperor made up by a single human being, this is proven so know your evil and egotistical, and overly domanent masculine aspect of a god from the Old Testament that all you bible thumpers always try to ignore, that’s your real God,who sounds more like a satanic figure to me,Jesus Christ was a fabrication made by the church a ex pope confessed that so don’t argue he was the pope he knows, and three the world honestly would be and unlimited times better if religion was never invented by stupid people to try to explain the unexplainable your all just pusses for taking the easy way out and letting others think for you, make and follow your own dam experiences not another persons who may or may not if even existed in the first place, you and only you are capable and able to save your soul not some stolen concepts and certainly Not a non forgiving false idol .

To all who read Darrell’s comment (rant?): Please join me in praying for God to reveal Himself to Darrell. He doesn’t know. That’s excusable. We all started that way. But the problem is: he doesn’t know that he doesn’t know. And the possible danger is: if a person tried to tell Darrell, I’m guessing he doesn’t want to know (the Truth). But God can get to him. He got to me, therefore He can get to Darrell.

You hit it on the head. God must reveal Himself to him. But for the especially blind ones – like myself – it took the revealing of the devil, instead. That’s what it can get a bit scary.

Mr Jan Smith, you definitely “got it so right” with your understanding about God and His Word. You are gifted by God to be able to explicate the “mystery about God and His Word” in very understandable terms.

Your response to Darrell is so precise and you have definitely hit the nail on the head .

Darrell, perhaps the reason why I feel, from reading your very sad words, that your life is so empty and so bitter is because you are Godless.

I, along with many others who have come to know that God is my most unconditional and “loyal” father in heaven have had some very catastrophic and terrible things happen to me. But throughout all the suffering, I always catch God throwing in my direction a “buffer” or “cushion”, or a “stepping stone” to ease the hardship, and dull away the pain. And of course, after the “heavy rain”, the sun always comes out even more vibrant and sweet for us believers, because invariably, we find that for all our “shame” that we bear, now & again in our lives – God always gives us, His believing children – “DOUBLE honour”, subsequently.

I guess the most concise way to start you thinking about God is this. Yes, we may all be “blind” and “brainless” in your eyes, but the reality is that when we “blind folks” all die and find out (hypothetically) that there is no God – nothing will happen to us because we have lived our lives – at peace – in the best way we know. However, when we all die, AND YOU THEN FIND OUT THAT THERE IS A GOD, and you have insulted & opposed Him in the utmost way – we “brainless folks” will be standing from heaven crying for you…

And for now, we will pray for you, as we love you, as a fellow human being, that you will “stumble on God”, one very FINE DAY – SOON!

        We love you as a

Thanks for this. I’ve enjoyed reading your site, but I’ve had trouble finding other answers to my questions on the web. Do you know of any sites that are similar to yours that I can read through? Also, what denomination do you side with?

Rachel, it took God many years to get my attention and to get me to start thinking about His Word so I could write these things. Really, it’s mostly His work. But I do appreciate your kind words. ~ Jan

Thank you God. Thank you Jesus, my savior. Thank you to the Holy Ghost…my guiding light in this bleak world full of madness. I know I don’t understand everything….but I AM SO GRATEFUL that you believed enough in a sinner like me to give me a chance to see the truth with my own eyes, and the free will to make my own decision. With Satan there is one way in…and no way out. But the Lord God does not gain our obedience and adoration out of guilt and fear…but Love
