A Spirit Of Fear

Your fear is being caused by the devil; by a “spirit of fear”.

Here is the entire Scripture passage:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV)

Here is perhaps the most important thing to know about fear: it is not just a physiological response to circumstances.
God has given you a “flight-or-fight” mechanism for your protection. The rush of adrenaline known as a “panic attack” will also – when you’re facing real danger — give you an instant boost of strength.
But Satan and his demons — as they always do — have corrupted God’s gift by using it against you. They do it by planting thoughts into your mind, thoughts of impending disaster and doom. They are behind all of those “what if” questions that tie you in knots of fear.
Paul wrote this:

Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but… against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)

The “voice” you “hear”in your thoughts sounds like your voice. But often, it isn’t. It may be the voice of a demon, impersonating you by somehow injecting thoughts into your mind. In this way, demons are able to deceive you into believing their lies.

REMEMBER:Deception is Satan’s most powerful weapon against the entire human race!

But also remember:God has your back!

How To Apply The Principle:
  • The fear that you are experiencing is NOT from God! How often did Jesus say things such as, “Do not be afraid“; and “let not your hearts be troubled“; and “fear not and “be of good cheer“? No, most of your fear is being inflicted by a “SPIRIT OF FEAR”!
  • God has given you the power to overcome. He has put His power into His Word. But that concept is: “…foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the Power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18).
  • God’s heart burns with love for YOU: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” (John 3:16). and He longs for you to love Him in return. Also, His Word commands us to love others even more than we love ourselves.
  • God has blessed most of with a sound mind. WE have the capacity to know; to memorize; to reason. We also have the freedom to choose what we put into our minds. He urges us to “…be transformed by the renewing of our minds.” (Romans 12:2)
  • What To Do: memorize this: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)”. You can do it. Just write it on a recipe card and read it over several times a day until you can say it “by heart”. THEN — VERY IMPORTANT:Recite it silently to yourself frequently throughout the day. You will be astonished at how it helps you!

PRAYER:“Heavenly Father, I praise You for showing me this truth about Satan and his demons. Now that I know that they are the instigators of the fear I’ve had I know exactly what to do. The next time fear even thinks about tormenting me, I won’t listen to those lies. I’ll quickly turn to You and rely on Your promises for help and comfort.”

I thank God for using you to speak to me about these evil forces because I’ve been suffering from thinking that I don’t have the power and I’ve been having fears.Everyday in midnight I can’t pray properly because I’m scared of seeing this ugly creature that’s all I think about and then fear starts coming thoughts of seeing bad things in the night start playing in my head and I forget that…

Sharon, thanks for your note. It delights me no end to know that I have had the privilege of helping another believer to take hold of the Word of God, and see how great an impact it can have when applied into the adversities of daily life.

My friend is on the path of satan and I’m scared I’m being pulled with him how can I break free but still be a role model? I am loving God more and more each day I feel like I’m being torn in too. God give me the strength to except the things I cannot change
The courage to change what I know is right
The wisdom to know the difference

      Sandhya, thanks for writing!
First of all: congratulations on completing your MBA! You have done what most people have not done. That alone sets you apart. Plus being a Christian in a Hindu culture culture also sets you apart. That’s what happened to Jesus’ apostles:

14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. (John 17:14~19)

They were hated. So were most followers of Jesus. Most of all, Jesus was hated. You’re in good company.

I can really identify with you. When I graduated with a degree in engineering, there were no jobs available. And even now, it seems nobody (except perhaps readers of this blog) have any idea why I am pouring myself into sharing what God has poured into me. It’s hard.

Will you please pray for me? I really like your blog and have started memorizing the scripture but still not getting a lot of victory. I have been a Christian for 20 years but kept hearing in my mind memorizing scripture wouldn’t work for me in my head or I cna’t really believe it ect…lies. Recently I have been trying to memorize, believe the word and apply it but don’t feel any different or still in the heat of the battle revert to relying on myself. I feel that I have a really bad stronghold and can’t overcome. Somehow I am not doing this right or the devil won’t flee. I keep trying to apply the word but feel that if I act all “cheerful” I am just being a fake. I feel that I fail in situations with people and then I just get discouraged about myself. Can you help?

Hi, Mary, I urge you to speak aloud some of your verses against the devil. The spoken Word of God is demon repellent. Don’t give up! Open your Bible and read from the Psalms of from the Gospel of John or whatever you find helpful. You at least know what’s going on. The devil will try any way he can to keep you out of God’s Word and to keep God’s Word out of you. Just read through your Scriptures out loud every day, once a day. Make it a habit.

Quoting scripture out loud does seem to work. I suffer from a fear of being rejected by God. I was quoting “do not fear this multitude that fights against you… I noticed a reduction in fear. My problem was that I then stopped. I need to continue. Part of my problem is that when I ‘feel’defeated then I stop trying. I know it’s not about my feelings though! None of it us about me but God. Please pray for strength and diligence. It’s so busy with my kids and work. It seems when I try to make time the kids waken early or interrupt. I also feel anxious in the morning and really don’t feel like praying etc. Pray for wisdom. Thank you. I live this site
