Sleep Peacefully; God Says You Can

Jesus repeatedly said, “do not be afraid”. So let me ask: do you sleep peacefully?

The devil WANTS you to be afraid… ALWAYS!

Satan and his demons may be totally evil, but they are definitely not stupid.

However, they do not have infinite resources as God does.

They are not omnipresent, meaning they can’t be everywhere as God can.

Nor are Satan and his demons all-powerful. All of them combined are as nothing compared to the infinite God.

Because of these limitations, Satan and his demons have to pick their battles carefully.

And that’s exactly what Satan did when he tempted Jesus.

The passage of Matthew 4:1-11 shows how Jesus basically clobbered the devil with Scripture. In so doing, He demonstrated the technique for us.

The Temptation of Jesus

4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But He answered, “It is written,

“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

5 Then the devil took Him to the holy city and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down, for it is written,

“‘He will command His angels concerning you,’

and

“‘On their hands they will bear You up, lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’”

7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 8 Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these I will give You, if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“‘You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.’”

11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to Him.

(Matthew 4:1~11)
The phrase: “He was hungry” has got to be the biblical understatement of all time!

After 40 days of fasting, Jesus — as a human being — was at His weakest point ever. That’s the moment Satan chose to try to get Him to sin.

Do you know why? Because Satan is a bully, and that’s how bullies operate. They go after those who are weaker than they are.

Small wonder, then, that demons go after us when we’re weary, half asleep, and already churning over difficult problems.

Fight back! Here’s what I urge you to do:

Here are several verses that you need to know by heart:

…for he gives to his beloved sleep. (Psalm 127:2)

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. (Proverbs 3:24)

In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. (Isaiah 26:3)

Don’t those thoughts seem wonderful to you? Those thoughts are from the Mind of God. He wants you to sleep peacefully. And realize this: He was already thinking of you in eternity past, before He even made the universe!

How To Apply The Principle:
  • Realize: If it’s in the Bible, it’s possible.
  • Decide: If it’s possible, tell yourself that you want it.
  • Discover: what possible conditions there may be. Is it available to anyone?
  • Learn: what steps, if any, must I do. What’s my part? (See “Here’s What To Do” below.)
Do You Want To Sleep Peacefully?
Here’s What To Do!

Get some 3″ x 5″ recipe cards, and write / print each verse on a card.

OR: I’ve made it even easier for you. Scroll down, and you’ll see an image of a page of 4 Scripture cards. I’ve put these into a PDF file, which you can open and view by clicking the link below the image. From there you can save the PDF file and print the page of cards. I’ve put faint lines around the edge of each card to show where to cut. Cut them out with a scissors, or with a ruler and a utility knife. You end up with (4) cards, 3″ x 5″ (like recipe cards).

I printed mine on heavier 8-1/2″ x 11″ paper, 65# weight, from an office supply store.

sleep peacefully

Scripture card page

To open/save/print this page of Scripture cards in a separate window,  CLICK HERE

OK, I’VE DONE MY PART!

I’ve given you all the information you need, along with examples and materials.

Now it’s up to you.

Do you like the way things have been going? Or are you unable to sleep peacefully? Is your “sleep” plagued by nightmares, fear, doubt, worry, anxiety, even panic attacks? That doesn’t have to continue. Let God help you!

Don’t listen to the voice of reluctance telling you that all this Bible stuff in nonsense, and that it won’t work and you’ll never be able to sleep peacefully. Those thoughts are lies from the devil!

I assure on the authority of the Word of God: turning to Him and learning a few helpful verses WILL work and that you CAN sleep peacefully! You will finally be cooperating with God instead of keeping His hands tied.

Even if you haven’t committed these verses to memory yet, Keep a set of these printed verses beside your bed. If fear or anxiety tries to grab you, do this: turn on the light if necessary (or use a small flashlight) and speak these verses out loud! That’s what I did. In my crisis moment, having memorized a verse, I stood up beside my bed and spoke God’s Word. You can read my own incident in my article entitled The Night I Stood Up To The Devil.

Those verses are like medicine for your soul. And, like medicine prescribed by your doctor, this “medicine” needs to be taken internally.

Print out a couple of sets of them. Take one with you and read the card over several times during the day. Put another set on your night stand, and read them out loud as you’re getting into bed.

Now pray this prayer, and then get busy.

PRAYER: “Heavenly Father, I’m going to sleep peacefully because here’s what I know: You are always with me, You are vastly more powerful than any demons seeking to torment me, and I’ll sleep well because I have put my trust completely in You. I will never again fear going to bed. You will bring me safely through whatever problems I face tomorrow. But right now I praise you, Lord, because tonight my sleep will be SWEET!!”

What about sleepwalking?! What if I do something bad while I sleep? How can I be sure that I don’t hurt my family unknowingly or while sleeping?

I sometimes wake up with a verse running through my mind. The other morning it was how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation. The evening before my thoughts we about how it would feel easier to give up and just live as others do. I believe God was prompting me to continue. I have had a lot of dreams and one terrible nightmare. I was avoiding a horrible weed filled room and I kept thinking I don’t want to go in there. But I was in there and looking in a mirror at myself and my hair…

      Hi, Beth,
Here is the source of that verse fragment you quoted:

1 Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. 4 For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, 4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. (Hebrews 2:1-4)

Beth, I urge you to read my article, How To Banish Unwanted Thoughts. You need the PRINCIPLE OF POSITIVE REPLACEMENT in your life. GOOD NEWS: you can be free from thoughts you don’t want in your mind.

My husband is sprinkling iridescent particles of different odors. It’s some sort of witchcraft and the particles are toxic…burning the eyes nose throat and have putrid smells. He even does this thing trying to make people hot. This being one of my ministries I’ve turned all of this around over and over but how do I get him to quit?! He moved out for five months but came back. He’s up all morning long doing this ritual. Who can help?!

Ella, I think I was in that same religious church. Don’t allow all that false teaching keep you from the Truth of God’s Word.

By the way… I’m not “religious” either. I’m just a guy straining to absorb as much Bible wisdom as I can, so that I can continue doing what God has assigned me to do: to share what He has poured into me.

I dont know where to start.
Yeshua came to me when I was 25. I am now 45 .HE told me I had some very important work to do,so I had been looking since.I have been taken through many life experiences and I have been confused about lots, But I always believed in him and talk to him all the time. I have been in the new age type thing, i dont know want you want to call it , and I had some ET type experiences ( extraterrestrial) even though I believe many are bad I was hopeful that there were some good ETS too as some of my experiences were ok. I certainly didn’t ask for these experiences and I know it is REAL . It began in my childhood . I am also very psychic /intuitive as a natural ability, which can be looked down upon by religious people and I can say its all been beneficial not the other way around. I feel now there is so much deception in the world and ive had many confusing experiences ( on a subconscious level) as a search for truth and knowledge , however its made the journey hard with plenty of ups and downs. The past 6 years have been like a roller coaster searching for spiritual truth. For example…I am of the light of jesus christ but why do devil worshippers talk that they are of the light too ?? ,
and why does it say on the masons bible ” let there be light” when after the 33 degree they are so bitterly dark and do demonic practices? Lucifer is referred to as the bringer of light….can you see how people could get so confused..
    Thank you

      Hi, Ella,
You asked “… why do devil worshipers talk that they are of the light too ?? ” They say things like that because their “father” the devil ALWAYS LIES!!

You asked about the masons bible, saying that they are “so bitterly dark and do demonic practices.” Well of course they are. They are of the kingdom of darkness, not the Kingdom of Light.

This was very helpful.. I had a nightmare of the devil and I woke up saying one of the devil’s names .. I instantly rebuked the devil in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and rebuked him back to hell from whence he came. As I did this I immediately felt electricity going through my body.. I knew it was the holy Spirit comforting me and giving me the words to say .. Amen thank God he still answers prayers..

I have found sleep to be one of the most vulnerable times for any Christian, especially the period of being half-asleep. In Job 33:15, it’s stated that the Lord speaks to us in dreams and whilst half-asleep. Now, make no mistake that God can get through to us at any time if need be. But it’s easier to do so when we are not resisting. But if we are half-asleep, we are not resisting demons, either! And so they can attack us. I’ve had them attack things God has obviously promised me. I’ve had them tell me my best friend hates me, and give me nightmares about it; and when I refused to believe THAT, and wrote about it in my diary (that I believed they do not dislike me and that they are filled with the love of God), they began to attack me whilst half-asleep, telling me my friend would die in an accident. If one thing doesn’t work, they move on to the next. But God is not the author of confusion! If God speaks, there would not be fear. Any message from God is followed by peace, from my experience. Thank you for your posts, sir, you have helped me today. 🙂 God bless!

      Asa, thanks for writing.
I want to sharer this Scripture with you. When I first saw this, it just reached out and grabbed me:

20 My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. 21 Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck.22 When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you.
23 For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life, (Proverbs 6:20~23)

Do you see what’s in there?
The passage calls us to know God’s Word (Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck)
      I particularly like the benefits:

      • When you walk, they will lead you
      • when you lie down, they will watch over you
      • when you awake, they will talk with you

I nearly jumped out of my chair and shouted for joy when I read those!

Things to consider first must pray to receive Christ confess your sins and believe jesus died on the cross Next remove all sin out of your life big and small means ALL . Next the Bible tells us to seek the kingdom first and learn about the Bible then these things will be given to you . You will see God promises start to work in your life . Get in a good church and a small bible group so u can pray and talk with others . These things have really been good for my family and myself . And hopefully they will be for you as well as you grow in Christ

The last year of my life has been awful. I made a move down south to better my life. Weeks later I found out my parents were abusing my siblings. I reported them just as I did when I was ypunger but once again they got away with it because of money and a name. I have no contact to my siblings and I don’t know if they are ok. I’m also experiencing financial problems, health problems, and truly believe it’s spiritual warfare. If you could please contact me at the email address provided I would greatly appreciate it as I don’t know if I think my life is worth it any longer. I went through hell in 2013 and pushed through that but this is really taking a toll. I’m seeking any help I can to spiritually make it through. I feel defeated, like I have no purpose and I think this is a nasty test and I cannot fail. Please help me I don’t know what to do but some weird things are going on that I won’t mention here. I need advice. Thank you for anyone that helps/prays. I need it.

Jennifer, I can’t see your email, and I know you left this in March (So you might not even see it), but I just want you to know that God truly loves you and the fight is ALWAYS worth it. I’ve gone through literally one of the worst years of my life- and there are days that I want to give up, and days that I doubt God cares anymore. I know abuse is hard, I myself have been abused, and I’m sorry about your siblings. It’s even worse when it happens to those you love, or when contact is cut off with someone. Pray to the Lord, don’t give up on Him, because He never gives up on you. God bless you 🙂 <3

Bless you Jan! God has shown you the keys to defeating the evil one’s lies. I have lived in fear for years. I have lost my job, had severe breathlessness attacks hitting me suddenly, out of the blue. I have spent lots of money for diagnosis. The enemy keeps telling me that I will die of cancer, never see my wife or son, or that my family will suffer after I die. The enemy is a bully, just like you mention in your posts. Amen to that last statement! The devil tries to keep you away from God, but His Word has power to overcome the devil. I’m so glad to read that you have decided to take God’s Word to heart. He’s longing for each of us to come to Him. Read some Bible verses right before you go to bed. I do that every day. As Isaiah said, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trust you” (Isaiah 26:3)

Thank you for this! I am having trouble going to sleep at night and have been plagued with anxiety, even though I have never had anxiety before in my life! I have been struggling with almost constant worry. A Google search led me to your words and I have been blessed. A sweet friend of mine told me that whenever I start to have those feelings, run to my bible and read aloud Phil 4:6-7. I have also begun reading 5 psalms a day to help strengthen my knowledge of the Word. Thank you again!

Toni, you’re on the right track. Things like worry and anxiety are somehow put onto you by the devil. So your actions are exactly right! And the advice from your friend is just so right-on! “Be anxious for NOTHING!” But see, the devil doesn’t want you to believe that. So I always like to tell people this: The Bible says it, therefore it’s possible! Sometimes there is a condition on God’s promises. But if it’s possible, you can have it. I have made a habit of reading a few verses of Scripture and a short lesson right before I turn out the light when I go to bed. in Proverbs 6, referring to the commandments and teachings of the Bible, it says, “when you lie down, they will watch over you”. That really happens. You can have it.

      Hi, Bridget,
I read your comment and it thrills my heart to read how you are taking hold of the Truth. The devil would love for you to continue living under the bondage of that “feeling”. Now you see what they are up to. You don’t have to live under the weight of those “feelings” any longer.
Have you read my article entitled You Can Live Free From Fear? That article show how you can live in what the Bible calls “Perfect peace”. You can have that peace!
That article also contains links to a series of short articles where I described my own story from when the devil virtually owned me. The series of articles show my progress beginning when I was totally ignorant of Spiritual torments from the devil and benefits from God. Read those, too, and you’ll see what I did.
