Your True Christian Identity

I recently heard these Scriptures read during a Sunday worship service. I’d like to share them with you because this is your true Christian identity!

When the devil tries to tell you what a loser you are, what a failure you are, etc., come back to this list and remind yourself — and the devil — who God says you really are… because His description of who you are is the one that really matters.

I am a child of God

23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; (1 Peter 1:23)

Also…

2 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. (1 John 3:1~2)

I am forgiven

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7)

Also…

12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. (Hebrews 9:12)

And…

13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13~14)

I am a new creation.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I am a temple where the Holy Spirit lives

19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, (1 Corinthians 6:19)

I am redeemed

18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. (1 Peter 1:18~19)

Your True Christian Identity
I am set free (because I remain in His Word)

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31~32)

I am strong in the Lord

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. (Ephesians 6:10)

I am dead to sin

11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:11)

I am more than a conqueror

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37)

I am a co-heir with Christ

16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs [co-heirs] with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:16~17)

I am accepted in Jesus Christ

5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. (Ephesians 1:5~6)

I am complete in Him

10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. (Colossians 2:10)

I am alive in Christ

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— (Ephesians 2:4-5)

I am free from condemnation

1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1)

I am reconciled to God

18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18)

I am chosen

4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you (1 Thessalonians 1:4)

I am God’s workmanship

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)

I am healed

4 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter 2:24)

I am raised up with Christ

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:4~6)

I am beloved of God

12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, (Colossians 3:12)

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:16~17)

I have overcome the world

4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. (1 John 5:4)

I have everlasting life

24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24)

Your True Christian Identity
I have the peace of God

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is at hand; 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4~7)

I walk in Christ Jesus

6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him (Colossians 2:6)

I have inexpressible joy!

8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:8~9)

My life shows his praise

9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)

THAT is how God identifies you!!

Wonderful article, Jan. It is an inspiring and uplifting read for those who feel oppressed and beaten down by the devil and his lies, reminding them that God truly loves them and that they are indeed His children.

Thanks for writing, Di. I feel it’s so important to keep focused on who God says we are. Very few people will be on our side. The devil and his gang work tirelessly to get us to focus on whatever negative thing they can slip into our minds. But Truth sets you free!!
