As we know from the Gospel of Matthew (Chapter 4) Satan wanted more than anything to have our Lord Jesus worship him. (It was that same rebellious attitude that got him thrown out of Heaven.)
8 …the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:8-9)
But… long before Satan was on Earth, (When he was named “Lucifer”) he was the most brilliant, dazzling angel God had ever created.
Pride welled up in Lucifer’s heart. He wanted what only God Himself could have:
13 You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ (Isaiah 14:13~14)
Why is all this so important in a worship service?
I’ll tell you why!
Because…
When we lift up our HANDS in worship to God…
When we lift up our HEARTS in worship to God…
When we lift up our VOICES in worshipful songs of praise to God…
…We are giving to God what Satan wants for himself… and he can’t have it… because God is in the house… therefore TRUTH is in the house… and Satan can’t hang with the Truth!
So…every Sunday when you enter a worship service…
…stand tall…
…lift up your hands…
…delight in the flood of joy that fills your heart…
…lift up your voice…
…AND…
Sing your FACE off!!
You will make the devil SCREAM in terror!
