A Spirit Of Fear

Your fear is being caused by the devil; by a “spirit of fear”.

God has not given us a spirit of fear!

The fear that you are experiencing is not from God.  Satan is the author of your fear!

Here is perhaps the most important thing to know about fear: it is not just a physiological response to circumstances.

Fear is a spiritual phenomenon, inflicted by the devil.

God built a “flight-or-fight” mechanism into you for your protection. The rush of adrenaline known as a “panic attack” will also, when you’re facing real danger, give you an instant boost of strength.

But Satan and his demons, as they always do, have taken God’s gift and have corrupted it by using it against you. They do it by planting thoughts into your mind, thoughts of impending disaster and doom. They are behind all of those “what if” questions that tie you in knots of fear.

Paul wrote:

Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but… against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)

The “voice” you “hear” in your thoughts sounds like your voice. But often, it isn’t. It may be the voice of a demon, impersonating you by somehow injecting thoughts into your mind. In this way, demons are able to trick you into believing their lies.

How To Apply The Principle:

  1. If you are experiencing fear, that fear is not from God. How often did Jesus say things such as, “Do not be afraid; let not your hearts be troubled; fear not; be of good cheer”? No, most of your fear is being caused by a “spirit of fear”.
  2. God has given you power to overcome. He put His power into His Word. But that concept is “foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the Power of God”.
  3. God’s heart burns with love for you: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…”. and He longs for you to love Him in return. Also, His Word commands you love others even more than we love ourselves.
  4. God has blessed us most of with a sound mind. WE have the capacity to know, to remember, to reason. We also have the freedom to choose what we put into our minds. He calls us to “be transformed by the renewing of our minds.”
  5. What To Do: memorize this: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)”. You can do it. Just write it on a recipe card and read it over several times a day until you can say it “by heart”. THEN — VERY IMPORTANT: Recite it silently to yourself frequently throughout the day. You will be astonished at how it helps you!

PRAYER: “Heavenly Father, I praise You for showing me this truth about Satan and his demons. Now that I know that they are the instigators of the fear I’ve had I know exactly what to do. The next time fear even thinks about tormenting me, I won’t listen to those lies. I’ll quickly turn to You and rely on Your promises for help and comfort.”

      Sandhya, thanks for writing!
First of all: congratulations on completing your MBA! You have done what most people have not done. That alone sets you apart. Plus being a Christian in a Hindu culture culture also sets you apart. That’s what happened to Jesus’ apostles:

14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. (John 17:14~19)

They were hated. So were most followers of Jesus. Most of all, Jesus was hated. You’re in good company.

I can really identify with you. When I graduated with a degree in engineering, there were no jobs available. And even now, it seems nobody (except perhaps readers of this blog) have any idea why I am pouring myself into sharing what God has poured into me. It’s hard.

Will you please pray for me? I really like your blog and have started memorizing the scripture but still not getting a lot of victory. I have been a Christian for 20 years but kept hearing in my mind memorizing scripture wouldn’t work for me in my head or I cna’t really believe it ect…lies. Recently I have been trying to memorize, believe the word and apply it but don’t feel any different or still in the heat of the battle revert to relying on myself. I feel that I have a really bad stronghold and can’t overcome. Somehow I am not doing this right or the devil won’t flee. I keep trying to apply the word but feel that if I act all “cheerful” I am just being a fake. I feel that I fail in situations with people and then I just get discouraged about myself. Can you help?

Hi, Mary, I urge you to speak aloud some of your verses against the devil. The spoken Word of God is demon repellent. Don’t give up! Open your Bible and read from the Psalms of from the Gospel of John or whatever you find helpful. You at least know what’s going on. The devil will try any way he can to keep you out of God’s Word and to keep God’s Word out of you. Just read through your Scriptures out loud every day, once a day. Make it a habit.
